Grâce Dorothée Tong

Born in 1992 in Yaoundé (Cameroon), Grace Dorothée Tong lives and works in Douala (Cameroon). With a degree in plastic arts and art history from the Institut des Beaux-Arts de Nkongsamba at the University of Douala, she explores multiple mediums in her creations. After several group exhibitions in Cameroon since 2015 and participation in the Rencontres d'Arts Visuels de Yaoundé (RAVY) in 2021, she presented her first solo exhibition, Ubuntu I am Because We Are at the Institut Français du Cameroun in February 2022, exploring and amplifying senses and consciousness on the politics of "being together". Following on from her introspective work, the artist is now interested in themes relating to the construction of collective identities, which converge and present themselves through the weaving of interpersonal links made tangible by elements such as rope and print. These symbols in her work question the notion of belonging that aims to link our multiplicities, themes she explored in her participation in the project "Unraveling the (under-) development complex or towards a post - (under-) development interdependence" organized by SAVVY Contemporary Berlin in 2022.
